Rookie Mistakes

1. Trying to win every pot you get into. The best poker players are able to fold AA, 2 pair, even a straight. TThe worst poker players will fight for a pot with middle pair and a crappy kicker. You’ll get the pot some of the time, but usually it won’t be a huge pot. It will be a huge pot when you lose, however. Pride yourself on driving that guy with the nuts crazy because you’ll never pay him off.
FullTilt Poker

I play a lot on FullTilt. It doesn’t have as low stakes as PokerStars, which is a consideration if you are just starting out. However, what I love is their Poker Academy. The videos are great, and they’ve set up challenges that will help you implement what you learn. You even can earn free stuff for participating (of course, you’ve got to do a gazillion challenges to get anything worthwhile… ) I think the caliber of player is higher in general that PokerStars at the micro/low level, although there are still many donkeys around. They also have some really fun games like Matrix games where you play the same folks on four tables at once and Rush poker, which moves you immediately to a new hand whenever you fold (good for people who get antsy and start playing too many hands).
Tournament Indicator

Tournament indicator provides statistics tailored to playing tournaments (in fact, it only works for tournaments). It helps you calculate the pot odds and your odd of having a winning hand (although be careful, it doesn’t take into account what other players are likely to be holding, so if you put them on a hand that you know you can’t beat, don’t put more money in even if the pot odds suggest you should!). A great thing about Tournament Indicator is that it calculates M for you, which is a great help in seeing where you are and how you should be playing at any given time. It also calculate M for the other players.
Outstanding Poker

The first site I want to investigate further is Outstanding Poker. It seems like a great place for a beginner to start, as they train you from start to finish in an effective poker style that sounds as though it is not too risky. I like that you get a consistent message rather than having to sort through many different opinions, which I think is good for developing a foundation. Also, it isn’t
Leggopoker

I first heard of leggopoker while watching the World Series of Poker, as one of its founders was wearing a hat. Guerilla marketing at its best. I like that it is a young site and some of the sample videos are really helpful, although others were hard to follow.
Introduction
by admin on Jun.01, 2010, under Uncategorized
Aloha! Let me introduce myself and this website. I am a graduate student – short, of course, on funds. I recently won about $600 over a weekend playing sit-n-go’s, which made me wonder if this could be the solution to my money problems. Certainly, I wouldn’t say I am a good player, actually I am quite poor. However, I seem to have an edge on some of the other bad players. So my goal now is to get serious about increasing this edge (mainly, stop making donkey moves!). I’ve found that it is pretty overwhelming trying to navigate all of the resources out there for poker. My aim for this website is to put just a little order to the chaos. This site is meant to serve as a guide for beginners, but hopefully it will be useful for all levels.
